How Do I Put My Business on Google Maps Without Showing My Home Address?
A simple, friendly guide to showing your business on Google Maps while keeping your home address private.
Not sure where to begin?
How do you work with customers?
Pick the answer that sounds most like your business.
Yes, you often can. If you run your business from home but travel to your customers, Google may let you appear on Google Maps without displaying your home address.
For example, perhaps you clean houses, repair appliances or visit customers to provide a service. People need to know that you work in their area. They don't need directions to your front door.
Here's a simple way to get started.
Is this right for your business?
Google calls businesses that travel to customers service-area businesses. That just means you do the work at your customer's location rather than welcoming customers into a shop.
- You visit customers: A house cleaner, electrician or mobile detailer can generally have a listing with a hidden home address.
- People visit your staffed shop: You may be able to show that business address, provided the location meets Google's rules.
- You only work online or ship orders: You generally won't qualify for a Google Business Profile unless you also have qualifying in-person customer contact.
If you're unsure, take a look at Google's eligibility guidelines.
Already have a listing? Here's how to hide your address.
You can update your existing profile without making a new one.
- Sign in to the Google account you use for your business.
- Search for your business on Google and choose Edit profile.
- Open Location, then edit Business location.
- Turn off Show business address to customers and save.
- Under Service area, add the cities or ZIP codes where you work.
Once Google processes the changes, customers should see your service area instead of your street address.
You can follow along with Google's official address instructions and service-area instructions.
A small tip: Check your listing in another browser where you're not signed in. That helps you see what customers see. Sometimes changes take a little time to appear.
Don't have a listing yet?
Start at Google Business Profile. It's free.
Add your real business name, the work you do, your phone number and your website if you have one. Follow the setup questions about whether customers visit you or you travel to them.
Google might ask you for your real address to verify the business. That doesn't mean your home address has to appear publicly. Just follow the setup instructions to hide it when appropriate.
Sometimes Google asks for a short verification video showing your equipment, work vehicle or workspace. Google explains what's needed in its video verification guide.
Which cities should you add?
Choose the places where you regularly accept jobs.
For example, a home-based business in Camarillo might work in Camarillo, Oxnard, Ventura, Moorpark and Thousand Oaks. If that's where your customers are, those places make sense.
Google allows up to 20 service areas, but you don't need to use all 20. Adding extra cities won't automatically improve your ranking.
Will hiding my address hurt my Google ranking?
It's a reasonable thing to wonder about.
Google considers how closely your business matches a search, how far away it is and how established it is. Some local marketing specialists have observed ranking changes when businesses hide their addresses. Those observations don't mean the same thing will happen to everyone.
The safest approach is to follow Google's rules and make your profile genuinely helpful. Choose an accurate business category, list your services, keep your hours current and add real photos. Reviews from happy customers help people feel confident contacting you, too.

A quick privacy check
Hiding your address on Google Maps doesn't remove it from other websites.
It's worth searching for your business name and home address. Take a look at old directory listings, social media pages and your own website.
If customers don't visit your home, your website can usually say something like "Serving Camarillo and Ventura County" instead of displaying a street address. Some business or licensing records may still be public.
What if your address is still showing?
First, give Google time to update your listing. Then open Edit profile → Location again and check that the address display is turned off.
If the old address is still appearing, you may be looking at an outdated or duplicate listing. Google's Business Profile Help Center can help you work through it.
If Google asks you to verify the business again, follow those steps rather than creating a second profile.
Before you finish
Here's a quick check:
- Your business is eligible because you meet Google's in-person customer requirements.
- Your home address is hidden if customers don't visit it.
- You've listed the cities where you actually work.
- Your phone number, hours and services are correct.
That's a good start. Your listing doesn't have to be perfect on the first day. You can add photos, answer questions and improve it as your business grows.
